On 27 September, GI Hub’s senior manager of leading practices Morag Baird, took part in a panel on Open Contracting and Infrastructure at the International Open Data Conference, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The panel bought together the Open Contracting Partnership, CoST’s Infrastructure Transparency Initiative, Open Data Services and the Global infrastructure Hub to present on open contracting for infrastructure, approaches to support greater transparency for infrastructure projects, related progress on the PPP disclosure portal in Honduras, and the importance of data for analysis of leading practices such as the PPP Contract Management Tool.
Transparency in project procurement and implementation helps to tackle the infrastructure financing gap in a number of ways. It helps improve efficiency and effectiveness of current and future investment, it helps increase the trust of investors to attract increased investment, and it enables evidence based lesson learning to inform future policy and practice.
